Prime Time
Before I dated my girlfriend I was addicted to the lame reality shows with drama and fake challenges or cartoons. I had never really watched Law and Order or CSI kind of shows. When me and my girlfriend started living together I got sucked into the
" I always take Tuesday nights off because House is on".
I can't say I was really too excited about the whole idea of watching House for one hour every week. She loved the main character Dr. House and the one and only girl doctor. True there is two women that are portrayed on the show but, the one who is really trying to go somewhere in life is really never the "smart one". As I began to get sucked into the normal schedule of house I began to realize that this was the more sarcastic version of ER. The women are dumb and are never the smart ones, they just seemingly always screw up.
Olivia Wilde plays "Thirteen" on House and is inevitably the "dumb one". She is portrayed as the girl who is annoy, doesn't know anything and likes to mess around with the male doctors. She isn't going anywhere on the show and is pretty much useless every time it comes to diagnosing the patient. She is portrayed as the typical women doctor on a prime time show. She never gets a chance to really be the one who got everything right. In reality women doctors and surely surpassing the male doctors by a lot. In school they usually score higher and aren't exactly the mean ones. House just makes Wilde look like nothing. She is not the only women on prime time either. Wilde falls into the same category as multiple women on Greys Anatomy, ER and CSI.
The women are always "just there" and never right. I think that women on television should be given more of chance to go farther. They aren't as useless as television puts them out to be. They always end up being stronger in the end. A lot of the time women aren't getting enough time in the show that they die off or quit. The trend of women being the minority is slowly changing but, is taking its time. Since Michelle Obama, and Sandra Bullock have put it there for women that they matter and can succeed in the movie and television world. Pretty soon men are going to be portrayed as the dumb ones.
